Description
Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Department: Neuro ICU
- Number of Beds: 18
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Rotating every other holiday
- Orientation: 20 hours (one 8-hour shift and one 12-hour shift)
- Floating: Travelers float first; may float to intermediate (1:3 ratio) or general floors (1:4 ratio)
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses: Ventriculostomy patients, strokes (with/without tPA), post-craniectomy care
- Typical Procedures/Skills:
- Ventriculostomy care
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification required
- Ventilator management
- Arterial and central line care
- Administration and titration of drips as ordered by physicians (varied drips, not always set rates)
- Acute stroke management
- Post-craniectomy care
Staffing & Support
- Charge Nurse: Present; may take patient assignments if staffing is limited
- House Supervisor: Available 24/7
- Nurse Aides/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio approximately 9:1
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: RNs troubleshoot vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, etc.
- Tele/Monitor Techs: Present on every shift; nurses read and interpret telemetry strips (Phillips monitors)
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS
- Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year
- Proficient in ventriculostomy care
- Skilled in arterial line and central line care
- Knowledge and experience with tPA administration
- Experience in acute stroke management
- Experience with post-craniectomy care
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels (drug-free campus)
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
- Call or standby requirement: None
