Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Department: Neuro ICU
• Unit Size: 18 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Rotating every other holiday
• Orientation: 20 hours (one 8-hour shift and one 12-hour shift)
• Floating: Travelers float first; may float to intermediate (1:3 ratio) or general floors (1:4 ratio)
• Charge Nurse: Present; may take assignment if staffing requires
• House Supervisor: 24/7 coverage
• Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio 9:1
• Tele/Monitor Techs: Yes, staffed every shift; nurses read and interpret strips (Phillips monitors)
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: RNs troubleshoot vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, etc.

Patient Population & Care

• Common Diagnoses: Ventriculostomy patients, strokes (with/without tPA), post-craniectomy care
• Skills Required:

  • Ventriculostomy care
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification
  • Ventilator management
  • Arterial and central line care
  • tPA administration
  • Acute stroke management
  • Post-craniectomy care
• Drip Management: RNs are required to titrate drips per physician orders; variety of drips used

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Active Illinois RN license (or application in process)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

• Specialty: Neuro ICU
