Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work schedule includes weekdays and some weekends with rotating holidays.
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity.
- Shift options: 36 hours per week, Day/Night rotating or Night shifts.
- Up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Saturday/Sunday for dayshift, Friday/Saturday for nightshift).
- No on-call required.
- Travelers will not be rotated more than once every 4 weeks.
- Estimated patient ratios: 1:1 to 1:2.
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Proficient in IV start and ventilator management
- Experience with Swan-Ganz catheters (SWANZ)
- Skilled in conscious sedation procedures
- Experience with balloon pumps
- Experience with pulmonary artery (PA) lines
- Experience using Epic electronic health record system
Required Certifications & Licenses
- License: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit specifics.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and state fingerprinting.
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Monthly monitoring through EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG databases.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed).
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement annually.
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
- Employment application required.
- Skills checklist required.
- Annual review and signing of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
Work Environment & Notes
- Estimated patient ratios are low (1:1 to 1:2), indicating high acuity.
- Floating within similar or lower acuity units expected.
- No call responsibilities.
- Parking permits available for purchase (details not included here).
