Registered Nurse - Operating Room
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Day/Evening rotating nurse position with a combination of 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week.
- Shift options include:
- 06:30 - 17:00
- 06:30 - 19:00
- 10:30 - 20:30
- Schedule may include:
- Four 10-hour shifts (4x10s)
- Five 8-hour shifts (5x8s)
- Two 8-hour shifts and two 12-hour shifts (2x8s + 2x12s)
- Call responsibilities on a rotating basis, including evening, night, and weekend shifts.
- Preferred experience in neuro, thoracic, ENT, ortho, general, plastics, urology, GU/GYN, free flaps, robotics (Da-Vinci), and oncology.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience.
- At least 1 year of recent neurology experience within the last year.
- Experience in Thoracic Surgery, ENT Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology, and Oncology.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system.
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care on a day/evening rotating schedule.
- Assist with circulating and scrubbing as needed.
- Maintain accurate patient records using EPIC.
- Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for certain units; check unit-specific requirements.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for ER and related units.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - Required for L&D, Post-Partum, and OB units.
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - May be required depending on unit.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - Required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with some unit exceptions).
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - Required prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams required.
- State RN license verification required within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS verification required for RNs.
- NIH Stroke Certification - May be required depending on unit; must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting.
- Education accreditation confirmation required from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required with specific code; must be completed within 1 year of start.
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring required.
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start; no pending drug screens allowed at start.
- Physical exam documentation within 1 year of start stating good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire in lieu of annual TB test renewal
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer required
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer required (medical exemption possible)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended.
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies required.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.
