Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Cardiac Telemetry
Location: Salisbury, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse experienced in cardiac telemetry for a fast-paced, high-acuity cardiac and stroke unit. The unit manages stable pre/post cardiac procedures, stroke patients, and cardiac drips with a focus on telemetry monitoring.
Key Details
- Shift: 12-hour day shifts (06:45 AM - 07:15 PM)
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:5-6; nurses must be comfortable managing up to 6 patients during surges
- Call Requirement: Yes, frequency depends on patient census
- Float Requirement: Yes
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, plus 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays in a 6-week period
- Orientation: 36 hours; travelers must be available every day during the first week for orientation
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; no block scheduling allowed
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Primary cardiac and stroke unit
- Care for stable pre/post pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators, cardiac catheterization, and peripheral vascular procedures
- Manage patients on cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone
- Unit handles 78 to 90 patient turnovers weekly, requiring nurses to be efficient and comfortable with a fast-paced environment
- COVID-positive patients may be present, including those on opti-flow and BIPAP (chronic use only)
- Equipment includes telemetry, pulse oximetry, high flow oxygen (stable), non-rebreather masks (palliative use only), and Bipap (chronic use only)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience caring for cardiac patients pre- and post-procedure
- Experience managing titratable cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone
- PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) experience
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
