Description

Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: Nights, either 3 or 4 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 1:6; may flex to 1:7 during unplanned absences
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-Call: Yes, as needed for low census
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Med Surg/Telemetry nursing experience
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • Rapid Response experience
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

  • First-time travelers: Accepted
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (travel-only position)
  • Schedule flexibility: Block schedule accommodation may be requested but is not guaranteed
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
  • Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
  • Employment Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified (not required for this facility)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual updates required, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • TB Testing:
    • Negative 2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days of contract start (T-spot not accepted)
    • If positive, chest X-ray proof required
    • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Drug Screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed

Background & Compliance

  • Background Check:
    • Annual check including 7 years of residence/work history
    • Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
  • Education Verification: Diploma or transcripts preferred as placeholder if verification pending
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; walk-through temporary license option available for SC RN license applicants without prior background issues
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for RN licensure
  • Radiation Badge: Required only if assigned to OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, or Radiology units (not required for this position)

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 4 hours
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required
  • Acknowledgments: Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, Job Description, Systems User Agreement, and other facility-specific documents must be signed/reviewed prior to start
  • Parking: Free parking available

Notes

  • Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams from June through November; peak activity in August and September
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Floating: Must float within scope to meet facility needs

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs who are comfortable working night shifts, have strong Med/Surg and telemetry skills, and are flexible to float as needed. Prior travel experience is not required.
