Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU).
- Patient ratio typically 1:1 to 1:2; ratios may vary when floated.
- Patient population includes fresh heart surgery patients, ventilated patients, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and patients with chronic and acute renal failure.
- Floating required to all ICUs, PACU, ED for ICU holding patients, and all IMC units.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- IV Certification
- CBSPD certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT using Prismax
- Experience with fresh heart cases and post-op open heart recovery
- Experience with Swan-Ganz catheter (Swan), Flotrack, temporary pacers, arterial lines (A-lines), and chest tubes
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Schedule & Time Off
- Every other weekend and holiday required as applicable.
- All time off or schedule accommodations must be approved prior to offer.
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for New Jersey.
Prior Travel Experience
- First-time travelers are accepted.
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Background check required within 30 days of start.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray required.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start.
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Various competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy, and pass/fail testing required within specified timeframes.
- Completion of facility-specific education and floating policy acknowledgment required.
- References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
- Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start).
Patient Care Equipment & Technology
- Experience with Impella, IABP, CRRT (Prismax), Swan-Ganz catheter, Flotrack, temporary pacers, arterial lines, chest tubes.
Notes
- Floating to other critical care and intermediate care units is required.
- Candidates must be prepared to work with complex cardiovascular patients including fresh post-op open heart surgery cases.
- Compliance with all health and safety documentation and certifications is mandatory for clearance and continued employment.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity cardiovascular ICU setting with a diverse patient population requiring advanced nursing skills and critical care expertise.
