Description

Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Night Shift)

Location: La Plata, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night Shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Schedule: Every other weekend required, holidays as scheduled, self-scheduling available


Job Details

  • Unit: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

  • Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics

  • Patient Diagnoses Include:

    • Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
    • COPD
    • Acute hypoxic/hypercarbic respiratory failure
    • Cholecystitis
    • Pneumonia
    • Sepsis
    • Cardiac arrest
    • Hypertensive emergency
    • Ischemic stroke
    • Alcohol withdrawal
    • Acute renal failure
    • Pancreatitis
    • Small/Large bowel obstruction
    • Atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular rate
    • GI bleed
    • Diverticulitis (with or without perforation)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients

  • Beds in Unit: 10

  • Special Procedures/Unit Details: Navy blue scrub color required

  • Floating: Required within specialty and to other units within scope

  • On-call: Not required


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Maryland
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including ICU experience within the last year
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Tech Cert Verification - National

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • I-9 or attestation
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal search, education verification, and state-specific exclusions
  • Drug screening (9 or 10 panel depending on location) within 30-45 days prior to start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test (N95 respirator) within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (as applicable)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination proof)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • COVID-19 vaccine not currently required for this location, but exemptions and documentation may be requested for tracking
  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
  • Employment application/resume within 30 days of start
  • Verification of previous 5 years of work history

Additional Notes

  • Holidays and weekend shifts are required as scheduled
  • Floating within specialty and related units is expected
  • Self-scheduling and every other weekend off (EOW) scheduling available
  • Badge photo and confidentiality agreements must be completed prior to start
  • Epic training test-out available for eligible candidates

This position offers a challenging ICU nursing role with a diverse adult and geriatric patient population, requiring strong critical care skills and certifications. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
