Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Specialty: Acute Rehab Unit (DMCC)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Details

  • Unit Type: Acute Rehab
  • Number of Beds: 29
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Day: 5:1
    • Night: 6:1
  • Common Patient Diagnoses:
    • Neurology, Neurosurgery
    • Amputations
    • Multi-trauma
    • Cardiac
    • Complex medical cases (tracheostomies, no ventilators)
  • Rehab Services Available: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy
  • Respiratory Equipment: CPAP/BiPAP at night for sleep apnea, nasal cannula (including high flow, but no heated high flow)

Schedule & Work Requirements

  • Shifts:
    • Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
    • Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday (rotating)
  • Call/Standby: None required
  • Floating: Yes, float to LTAC and med-surg units; no floating to the acute rehab unit unless trained
  • Orientation:
    • 2 days classroom orientation
    • 2-3 days/nights with a preceptor
    • Includes training on specific rehab documentation and quality reporting processes

Clinical & Job Responsibilities

  • Required Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association)
  • Strong neurology skills required
  • RN responsibilities:
    • No titration of drips except heparin
    • Attend team conferences for acute inpatient rehab
  • Telemetry: Telemetry available but not monitored by RNs; RNs do not read strips
  • Nurse Aides: Present with a ratio of approximately 1:9 or 1:10
  • Dress Code: Any color scrubs allowed; t-shirts only if approved

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Rehabilitation nursing experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Notes

  • Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
  • Orientation hours (12 hours) are non-billable and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
  • No charge nurses currently; only house supervisors on site

This position is ideal for RNs with strong neuro skills interested in acute rehab nursing in a supportive team environment with structured orientation and consistent scheduling.
