Location: Sumter, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN)
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM to 7:30 PM)
- Unit Details:
- 9 labor and delivery rooms
- 2 operating rooms
- 4-bed triage
- 2-bed PACU
- Equipment/Systems: OBIX fetal monitoring system, external fetal monitoring
- Responsibilities: Circulate for C-section, triage of obstetrical patients
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC only, cannot expire within 30 days of start
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only, cannot expire within 30 days of start
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA Advanced only, cannot expire within 30 days of start
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) – AWHONN required as applicable
- Triage of obstetrical patients certification/competency
- Preferred: AWHONN Intermediate certification
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
- Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NRP certification
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
- Lactation Certificate for Baby Friendly designation
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance and Background Requirements
- 7-year background check within 12 months of start date, including alias and county/state searches
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
- Fingerprinting may be required depending on residency history
- Education verification of highest level completed
- Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (if working in high-risk areas)
- Flu vaccine or approved exemption (seasonal requirement)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B documentation or immunity proof
- Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation (N95 masks commonly used)
Orientation and Testing
- Online orientation modules must be completed within 72 hours of assignment
- Pre-assignment testing (medication and arrhythmia tests) required within 72 hours of receiving login
- Candidates have two attempts to pass required tests; failure results in cancellation
- EKG practice test and study guide provided (not required for L&D but standard for RNs)
- Pass/fail testing for fetal monitoring exam with a passing score of 84% (2 attempts allowed)
Additional Notes
- Badge photo required prior to start (passport-style, plain background)
- Floating policy must be signed (not required for non-clinical)
- Annual competency exams and core training required (universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, etc.)
- Lactation certification required for all Women’s RN candidates (L&D, Mother/Baby units)
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams required annually
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification may be required depending on unit
