Description
Registered Nurse - Medical Oncology (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Summary
- Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts (12D/N), with possible mix of shifts based on department needs.
- Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks.
- Orientation: 1 week Monday-Friday day shift, followed by 36 hours on-unit orientation with a preceptor.
- Staffing ratios goal: 1:4, can be up to 1:5.
- Weekend shifts variable based on unit needs.
- Self-scheduling requests allowed before final schedule posting.
- Floating required to other MedSurg Oncology units.
Patient Population
- Adults and Geriatrics
- Oncology patients with solid tumors including:
- Breast, Lung, Prostate, Pancreatic, Colon, Esophageal cancers
- Patients receiving antineoplastic chemotherapy
- Care spans from new diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life care.
- Patients may have medical-surgical issues alongside oncology care.
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 1 year of recent Med Surg and Telemetry nursing experience within the last year.
Compliance & Background Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting required prior to start.
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program required.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start.
- Various health documents required including:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and titers (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season
- Annual competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency required.
- Additional compliance training and attestations as required by facility policies.
Additional Notes
- Floating to other medical-surgical oncology units is required.
- No set/blocked scheduling as permanent staff have; schedule varies based on unit needs.
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention.
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized oncology unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of solid tumor cancers, with a supportive orientation and ongoing competency requirements to ensure high-quality care.
