Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide care for admitted patients with varying diagnoses who are boarding in the Emergency Department awaiting bed placement on an inpatient unit.
- Experience with ER boarding and Intermediate Care/Stepdown units required.
- Float assignments required.
- Work schedule includes every other weekend.
- Shift hours: 1900-0730 (overnight).
Required Qualifications
- License: Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in the District of Columbia.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
- Travel Experience: Prior travel experience required (must have completed at least 1 prior travel contract).
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Must successfully pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with:
- Minimum overall score of 80%
- 100% score on lethal rhythms section
- Ability to float to other units as needed.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
- Education verification for highest degree required by position.
- Drug screen within 90 days of start (does not include marijuana).
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
- Immunizations and health documentation including:
- Tdap vaccine within last 10 years (preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Documentation of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- Valid driver's license if driving is an essential job function.
Additional Requirements
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years.
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start.
- Annual competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency.
- Color blindness testing (online or in-person).
- Annual acknowledgment of safety manual.
- N95 fit test within 9 months of start and updated annually.
Work Environment
- Care for patients boarding in the Emergency Department.
- Stepdown/Intermediate Care experience required.
- Must be able to work overnight shifts and float to other units as needed.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with prior travel assignments who are comfortable working in a fast-paced emergency and stepdown care environment.
