Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse

Location: Muncie, Indiana

Job Description

• Assignment in an 18-bed open critical care unit
• Staffing ratio typically 1:2 patients per RN; may be 1:1 for high acuity patients
• Floating required to Progressive Care unit
• Patient population includes respiratory failure, sepsis, CHF, STEMI, surgical cases
• No ECMO, transplant, neurotrauma/neurosurgery cases
• Cardiac surgery patients (CV/Open Heart) staffed by permanent nurses for first 36 hours
• Unit manages arterial lines, ventilated patients, continuous IV sedation, cardiac drips, and IV starts

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)

Required Skills

• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Arterial line management
• Starting IVs
• Continuous IV sedation
• Titration of cardiac drips
• Care and management of ventilated patients, including ventilator management

Staffing Ratios

• 1 RN to 2 patients, with 1:1 for high acuity

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• PALS issued by American Heart Association
• NRP certification
• CHEMO certification
• NIHSS certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Arterial line management
• Starting IVs
• Continuous IV sedation
• Titration of cardiac drips
• Ventilator management

Health and Compliance Requirements

• Background checks including 7-year work/living history, criminal, sex offender, and education verification
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
• Physical exam within 12 months of start date
• Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
• Immunizations and titers required or strongly recommended:

  • TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap strongly recommended
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit competency exam
• Color blindness testing (Ishihara or equivalent)

Additional Notes

• Indiana RNs will not be allowed to work at these facilities effective 11/30/2024, except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (Periop includes ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
• Valid driver’s license or passport required
• Multiple facility-specific compliance and orientation documents must be completed prior to start
