Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

Seeking a Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech to support surgical services with a focus on general, orthopedic, and neurological cases. This role involves working 3 twelve-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM), including call rotation, occasional weekends, and holidays.


Schedule Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM)
  • Call rotation with staff
  • Weekend rotation required
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
  • Facility allows one call-off shift per 2 weeks
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • No local candidates accepted (radius restrictions apply)

Required Qualifications

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Certified Surgical Technologist license in Virginia
  • Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • OR Tech Certification accepted: NBSTSA or NCCT

Experience & Skills

  • Strong experience in general, orthopedic (total joints), and neurological surgical services required

Unit & Patient Population

  • Level I trauma OR with 25 OR suites
  • Patient population includes neonates, infants, adolescents, pediatrics, and geriatrics
  • Services include general surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, plastics, gynecology, oncology, robotic surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, pediatrics, and sports medicine
  • 24/7 onsite nursing coverage

Special Equipment

  • ROSA robotic system
  • Si and Xi daVinci robots
  • Stealth navigation system
  • O-Arm imaging system
  • HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • I-9 or attestation
  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID (must meet radius requirements)
  • E-Verify or attestation
  • 7-year background check (covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education verification of highest earned degree
  • Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
  • Fit test within 1 year, updated annually (not required for students)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or mask and declination form during flu season
  • Professional photo for badge
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance paperwork

  • Two clinical references required
  • Complete employment application/resume
  • Annual skills checklist update
  • Medication and competency exams as applicable

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Virginia state license.
  • No local candidates accepted due to radius restrictions.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity Level I trauma center with advanced surgical technology and a diverse patient population.
