Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PACU

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Start Date: 04/27/2026
Shift/Hours: Alternating shifts; 3 days of 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM) followed by 3 days of 12-hour night shifts (7:30 PM - 7:30 AM)
Weekend/Holiday/On-Call:

  • Weekend shifts required: 3 per 4 weeks
  • Holidays required as scheduled
  • On-call required: 1-2 twelve-hour call shifts every 6 weeks (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Floating required within specialty and other units as needed

Unit Description

  • 12-bed Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) specializing in traumatic injury management
  • Provides peri-anesthesia care for adults and geriatrics, including pre- and post-operative care for scheduled and emergency surgeries
  • Supports trauma resuscitation and procedural overflow
  • Nurses must be skilled in vasopressor titration, airway management, ventilator care, blood product administration, and fluid resuscitation

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Maryland State RN License
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Maryland
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Competency in titration of vasopressors
  • Experience in care of ventilated patients
  • Proficient in blood product administration
  • Skilled in fluid resuscitation

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PACU/Trauma)

    • TB screening (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD) with annual updates
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination proof
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination (series not accepted)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for flu season
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start
  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
  • Employment application/resume within 30 days of start
  • Work history verification for previous 5 years

Uniform/Dress Code

  • Navy blue scrubs; pink scrubs for trauma assignments
  • Pediatric department: navy blue scrub pants with child-friendly tops
  • White short sleeve or navy long sleeve undershirts (pink if wearing pink scrubs)
  • Business casual for certain departments (no jeans, no open-toe shoes, no sleeveless tops, no shorts)

Notes

  • This is a specialized PACU role requiring critical care skills in trauma and perioperative nursing
  • Weekend, holiday, and on-call availability is mandatory
  • Floating within specialty and related units is expected
  • Compliance with all health, background, and credentialing requirements is mandatory prior to start
