Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Addiction Rehab

Location: Bronx, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an LPN for an addiction rehabilitation unit serving adults (18+) recovering from substance abuse including alcohol, crack cocaine, and PCP. This is a voluntary unit with stable patients, primarily run by counselors. The LPN will assist with patient care, including assessing detox symptoms, obtaining EKGs, and performing phlebotomy.

Unit Details

• Capacity: 23 patients
• No nurse-to-patient ratios; RNs handle admissions, medications, and medical issues
• No IVs administered routinely; may start IVs only in medical emergencies
• No use of physical restraints
• No nurse aides or mental health specialists on unit
• No respiratory therapist available; RNs perform EKGs if needed
• EMR system: Allscripts
• Floating: May float to Rehab, clinic, or psychiatry units as needed (psychiatry nearby)
• Orientation: 5 days on the floor
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: 1 winter holiday and 1 summer holiday
• Scrub color: LPNs wear Kelly Green

Required Qualifications

• Current LPN license
• BLS certification (AHA)
• De-escalation training
• ACLS certification
• Minimum 1 year of MedSurg experience preferred
• Phlebotomy skills and experience obtaining EKGs required
• Psych experience preferred but not required

Additional Information

• Patients with behavioral issues who cannot follow rules are discharged
• Patients with psychiatric issues are transferred to psych units
• No call or standby requirements

This position is ideal for an LPN with addiction rehab or MedSurg experience who is comfortable working in a voluntary, stable patient environment and can perform clinical assessments and procedures such as phlebotomy and EKGs.
