Job Opportunity: X-Ray Tech

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7:30 AM), Friday through Sunday, including holidays as needed
  • Orientation: First week may include day shifts for orientation before regular schedule begins
  • On-call: Required, approximately 3-4 days per month
  • Floating: May float within the same campus buildings; no floating to sister facilities
  • Daily caseload: Varies

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Radiology Technician license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Radiology Technician or X-Ray Technician experience
  • O/C-Arm experience required
  • BLS certification required (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted)

Licensure

  • Must hold a valid South Carolina license relevant to the Radiology specialty
  • Primary source verification required showing active, unencumbered license with no pending actions
  • Temporary/walk-through licenses may be available under certain conditions

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required for all clinical candidates
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS, PALS) – verify with recruiter/unit
  • Competency exams and color blindness testing required prior to start
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exams may be required as applicable

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Immunizations and titers required or proof of immunity for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination form)
    • Varicella (chickenpox)
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (August 1 - April 30) or medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated

Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Complete employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Background checks including 7-year history, criminal, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions
  • Education verification and diploma/transcripts preferred
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start
  • Radiation badge ordering process must be initiated prior to start; badge delivery may take 5-7 days
  • Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed before orientation; failure to complete may result in being sent home
  • All required documents and certifications must be current and valid at start date (no certifications expiring within 30 days of start accepted)

Additional Notes

  • Facility is a Magnet, Teaching, Level 1 Trauma hospital with 865 staffed beds
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Parking fee applies only for nights and weekends ($20 one-time pass)
  • During hurricane season (June-November), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams; consider this before accepting assignment
  • Radius rule: 60 miles; local candidates accepted at a reduced rate

This position is ideal for X-Ray Technologists with at least 1 year of experience, including O/C-Arm skills, who are comfortable working night shifts and on-call rotations in a high-acuity teaching hospital environment. Compliance with all health, safety, and credentialing requirements is mandatory.
