Registered Nurse - Med/Surg - Nights

Location: Lawton, Oklahoma
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide total nursing care for patients across the lifespan including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Collaborate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Maintain professional nursing standards and ensure patient safety in a medical-surgical night shift setting.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive head-to-toe patient assessments and reassessments
• Implement age-specific care and pain management techniques
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and update individualized care plans
• Administer medications safely following the five rights of medication administration
• Educate patients and families regarding care plans and pain management
• Document patient care accurately and professionally
• Assist physicians with procedures and perform treatments within scope of practice
• Participate in staff education, orientation, and professional development activities
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with regulatory and organizational policies
• Promote patient safety and reduce healthcare errors

Working Conditions

• Exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, and sharp objects
• Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, and occasional running or climbing during emergencies
• Physical demands include lifting and transferring patients and equipment, requiring assistance when necessary
• Use of medical equipment and technology including IV pumps, monitors, and keyboards

Physical & Mental Requirements

• Dexterity to initiate IVs, prepare and administer medications, and operate medical devices
• Ability to lift and move patients and equipment safely
• Visual acuity for patient assessment and medication administration
• Hearing ability to communicate effectively and monitor alarms
• Strong reading, writing, speaking, and reasoning skills in English
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and patient care
