Job Description

• Provide nursing care in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) setting.
• Patient ratio typically 1:1 to 1:2; ratios may vary when floated.
• Patient population includes fresh heart surgery patients, ventilated patients, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and patients with chronic and acute renal failure.
• Floating required to all ICUs, PACU, ED for ICU holding patients, and all Intermediate Care units.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of current CVICU experience required.
• SICU experience may be considered with initial CVICU training.
• Experience with devices such as Impella, IABP, and CRRT using Prismax or experience with fresh heart cases is mandatory.
• Required skills include post-op open heart recovery, Swan-Ganz catheter, Flotrack, temporary pacers, arterial lines, and chest tubes.
• Experience with fresh open heart surgeries such as CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR is essential.

Schedule & Time Off

• Every other weekend and holiday required as applicable.
• All time off or schedule accommodations must be approved prior to offer.

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification

Licensure

• Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for New Jersey.

Prior Travel Experience

• First-time travelers are accepted; prior travel experience is not required.

Additional Requirements & Compliance

• Floating policy acknowledgment required for every new assignment.
• Background check required within 30 days of start, including criminal, alias, and nationwide searches.
• Drug screening required within 30 days of start.
• Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start and annually thereafter.
• Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
• Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol required.
• Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam, dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam, IV therapy/infusion exam, and other required competency exams within specified timeframes.
• Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge required with remediation policy in place.
• References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
• Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
• Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates for at least 1 year prior to start date.

Patient Care Equipment & Technology

• Experience with Impella, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) using Prismax.
• Familiarity with Swan-Ganz catheters, Flotrack monitoring, temporary pacers, arterial lines, and chest tubes.

Patient Population

• Post-operative open heart surgery patients (CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR).
• Ventilated patients and those with chest tubes and lumbar drains.
• Patients with chronic and acute renal failure.

Notes

• Locals are accepted for this position.
• Floating to other critical care and intermediate care units is required.
• All certifications must be current and valid at the time of assignment start.
• Candidates must comply with all facility-specific education, training, and attestation requirements prior to start.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
• Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• IV Certification
• Experience with Impella, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) using Prismax
• Experience with fresh heart cases and post-operative open heart recovery
• Experience with Swan-Ganz catheters, Flotrack monitoring, temporary pacers, arterial lines, and chest tubes
