Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Neuro ICU

Location: Dayton, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Fast-paced Neuro ICU treating neurological diseases and disorders such as seizures and strokes.
  • Work in a comprehensive stroke center environment.
  • May also care for overflow ICU patients from Medical Surgical ICU and Heart and Vascular ICU.
  • Floating required: may be assigned to other specialty clusters or units within approximately 15 miles radius.
  • Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.
  • EPIC experience required.
  • Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio (must obtain before contract start; license not required at application).
  • Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Minimum 2 years of comprehensive stroke center experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of overall nursing experience as an RN.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Certifications required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
    • Tech Cert Verification - National.
    • State License 1 Verification.
    • NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP).
  • Stroke experience.
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to work every other weekend and holidays.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, national sex offender registry, and others as required.
  • Drug screening within 12 months prior to start, including marijuana panel (medical marijuana use not accepted).
  • Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness for duty.
  • Immunizations and health documents required (e.g., TB test, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccination or approved exemption).
  • Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency within 1 year or completed shortly after contract signing.
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years, including at least one manager/supervisor or charge nurse.
  • Skills checklist updated within 1 year.
  • Must complete medical questionnaire for respiratory protection and annual health questionnaire.
  • Must be willing to comply with facility-specific policies and procedures.

Work Environment

  • ICU setting with neurological focus.
  • May float to other ICU or specialty units as assigned.
  • Comprehensive stroke center with high acuity patients.
  • Collaborative team environment requiring flexibility and adaptability.

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • License must be obtained before contract start but not required at time of application.
  • The facility reserves the right to cancel shifts or contracts with notice.
  • Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives.
