Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • 3x12-hour night shifts
  • Weekdays and some weekends
  • Rotating holidays
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Estimated patient ratio: 1:3

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Proficient in IV insertion/starting (IV start)
  • Experience in telemetry and MedSurg/Telemetry units
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider or instructor accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA provider or instructor accepted
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification) – verify per assignment

Competencies & Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (exceptions may apply for certain units or remote positions)

Background & Credentialing Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
  • Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • State license verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start, or TB questionnaire in lieu of annual test
  • Immunizations or titers required:
    • Measles (Rubeola) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
    • Hepatitis B – titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) – adult dose required
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); decliners must wear a mask
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending results)

Additional Information

  • Floating to other units of similar or lower acuity may be required
  • Parking options available for travelers (details not included here)
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
  • Confidentiality and compliance reporting forms required

This position is ideal for experienced PCU RNs who are comfortable with night shifts, floating between units, and have strong clinical and EHR skills. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
