Description
Registered Nurse - Med Surg
Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse provides clinical care tailored to the patient population on assigned medical-surgical units. Responsibilities include coordinating and implementing patient care while ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency consistent with unit standards. The role requires effective communication, respect for patients and staff, and adherence to organizational goals.
Work Environment
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
- Floating to other Medical-Surgical units as needed
- EMR system used: EPIC
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases
- Clean, well-lit, ventilated, smoke-free environment
- Varied working hours with flexibility for emergencies and schedule changes
- Physical demands include prolonged standing/walking, patient positioning, and manual dexterity
Schedule Requirements
- Weekend shifts every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- No on-call requirement
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience
- Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge and skills appropriate to the patient population served
- Sensitivity to patients’ rights in care delivery
- Clear and age-appropriate communication skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to handle emergency/crisis situations
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, transferring patients or equipment
- Good visual and auditory acuity (normal or corrected)
- Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination
Supervision
- Reports to Patient Care Director or Manager
