Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan

Job Description

• Provide care on a step down unit specializing in general medical and oncology stepdown patients.
• Administer chemotherapy via IV and start IVs.
• Use equipment such as Welch Allyn Vital Sign Towers, Sigma IV Pumps, and EPIC for documentation.
• Floating to other med-surg areas including Acute Unit (AU) and Emergency Room (ER) to care for med-surg patients.
• Nurse to patient ratio typically 1:4-6; ratios may flex with support staff and during chemotherapy admissions.
• Weekend work every other weekend; scheduling includes some self-scheduling with weekends assigned by management.
• Block scheduling may be accommodated; must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment.

Required Qualifications

• License: Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License
• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • ONCC or ONS Chemotherapy Certification (must be in hand; pending ONS accepted)
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of PCU/Stepdown nursing experience with oncology/chemotherapy experience required.
• Skills:

  • Administer chemotherapy via IV
  • Start IVs
• Additional:

  • No call required
  • Must be willing to float to other med-surg areas including AU and ER

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Weekend shifts every other weekend.
• Floating to other med-surg units as needed.
• Charge RN typically not assigned patients.
• Chemotherapy admissions reduce patient assignment ratios.

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18.
• Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions (verify if applicable).
• Education verification with copy of highest degree or diploma.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
• Immunizations and health requirements:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 30 days of start
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer each)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (for candidates starting after November 1)
• Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam within 1 year prior to assignment start.
• Completion of skills checklist annually for applicable units.
• Review and sign facility Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards Policy.
• Fit testing required on-site (Honeywell DC365N95HC) unless exempted by role or location.

References & Work History

• One professional reference from a direct supervisor or manager required.
• Complete application/resume with full 7 years of work history, no gaps, dated MM/YYYY.
