Description

Job Opportunity: Surgical Tech

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Variable shifts including nights, 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts.
  • Call required Monday through Friday from 9:00 PM to 6:30 AM.
  • Weekend shifts: 12-hour shifts from 7:00 PM to 6:30 AM with call.
  • Holiday and weekend coverage may be required based on unit needs.
  • Experience required in the following areas:
    • Neurosurgery
    • Spine
    • Complex Orthopedics/Ortho Spine
    • Complex General Surgery including Bariatric surgery
  • Call and weekend requirements are mandatory.
  • Required experience includes Level I Trauma and Neuro.
  • Preferred experience includes ENT, GU, Plastics, and Burns.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of Surgical Tech experience (highest required years of experience).
  • Prior travel experience preferred (not required).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Epic electronic health record system experience preferred.
  • National certification for Surgical Technologists is not required.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal background, fingerprinting (BCI & FBI), and education accreditation verification are mandatory.
  • Must complete state license verification within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within one year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen).
  • Required immunizations and health documents:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider or instructor accepted.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit.
  • Unit-specific competency exams required.
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required for applicable roles.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for all RNs within 1 year of start (not applicable for Surgical Tech but noted for RN roles).

Additional Information

  • Call and weekend coverage are mandatory.
  • Parking permits available for purchase (details not included here).
  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within one year of start.
  • Background checks and fingerprinting results must be clear prior to or at start.
  • Candidates must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policies.
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Education must be from accredited programs.

This position is ideal for Surgical Technologists with strong experience in trauma, neuro, and complex surgical specialties who are flexible with variable shifts and call requirements. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
