Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Observation Unit
Location: Huntington, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a fast-paced observation unit with an expected patient stay of approximately 48 hours.
- Patient acuity level: Medical/Surgical.
- Schedule requires working every other weekend.
- No on-call duties.
- Local candidates within a 50-mile radius are not accepted.
- First-time travelers are not accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in West Virginia.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Direct Observation Unit (DOU) within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP).
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
- NIH Stroke Certification.
- Tech Certification Verification - National.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.
- State License Verification.
- NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP).
Work Environment & Facility Notes
- Level II Trauma center.
- Total staffed beds: 330.
- Scrub color: Hunter Green (or facility T-shirt); surgery scrubs provided if assigned to surgery.
- Electronic charting system: Cerner.
- Free parking available for travelers.
- Respiratory protection: N95 fit testing completed onsite; male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit test.
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID must be carried during work hours.
- Background checks required, including 7-year criminal history and other federal/state screenings.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start, including a comprehensive panel.
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
- Immunizations and titers required or documentation of immunity for:
- Tuberculosis (TB)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis A, B, and C
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Seasonal Flu vaccine (or approved medical/religious exemption)
- COVID-19 seasonal vaccine (initial series preferred; declination form required if opting out)
- Facility-specific orientation and education modules must be completed within one week of start.
- Confidentiality agreement and other facility-specific forms required prior to start.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required if assigned to ICU.

- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations.
- Completed employment application/resume.
- Skills checklist and performance evaluations if applicable.
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
- This role is not open to local candidates within 50 miles.
- Candidates must be able to work every other weekend.
