Description

Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech

Location: Spokane, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position may float between units, including outpatient surgical center.
  • On-call required 1x per week on a 1 weekend/6 week schedule; can include weeknights or weekends.
  • Weekend work is on-call only.
  • Expected nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1.
  • Must be able to scrub a full variety of neurosurgical procedures, including craniotomies and complex spine surgeries.
  • 48-hour shifts are not approved.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Surgical Technician license in Washington.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technician.
  • Surgical Technician experience within the last year.
  • Proven ability to scrub a variety of neurosurgical procedures.
  • Experience scrubbing craniotomies.
  • Experience scrubbing complex spine procedures.

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Current certification by AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society.
  • Chemotherapy certification (if applicable).
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (if applicable).
  • IV Certification (if applicable).
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) (if applicable).
  • NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable).
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) (if applicable).
  • State License verification and NURSYS verification as applicable.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification required.
  • State-specific searches and registry checks as applicable.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Respirator fit testing required annually (for travel candidates starting on or after 2/5/2024).
  • References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete required competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable.
  • Skills checklists must be updated annually.
  • Must complete required WorkRamp modules including:
    • Annual regulatory requirements
    • Specialty-specific modules
    • Regional core and specialty-specific modules
    • Basics of Trauma Informed Care (required at this facility)
  • Photo for badge required (passport style with neutral background).
  • Float policy acknowledgement required (may be required to float to other nearby facilities).
