Job Description
Seeking a Cath IR Radiologic Technologist with experience in Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures. The position involves working in a busy cardiac interventional service with approximately 40-50 patients seen daily. The department operates 24/7 and treats adult patients only.
Patient and Procedure Types
- General IR cases including kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty (not at night), central lines, PICCs, ports, fistulograms, IVC filters, nephrostomy tubes, nephroureteral stents, peripheral leg cases, coil embolization, thoracentesis/paracentesis.
- CT room supported procedures such as cryoablation, CT biopsies, drains (not at night).
- Neuro IR cases including strokes, embolization, DSA, WADA test, spinal angiograms (not at night).
- AAA intervention experience preferred.
Required Licensure and Certifications
- Registered Technologist in Radiography (RT(R)) with ARRT certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Valid license to practice in Wisconsin.
Required Skills and Experience
- Ability to scrub and pan simultaneously.
- Experience with the general IR cases listed above.
- Comfort with procedure charging/coding is preferred but not required.
- Will accept candidates with 1 year of experience.
- First-time travelers are accepted if they have IR experience.
Orientation and Support
- Orientation with a preceptor for 1-2 weeks with competency check-off.
- Unit support includes receptionists, lead techs, multiple techs per exam room, tech specialists, respiratory therapy 24/7, hospitalists 24/7, and CNA/transporters available 24/7.
Scheduling and Call
- Weekend rotation includes call.
- Weekday call: typically 1 shift per week, end of shift until 7:00 AM next day.
- Weekend call: approximately once every 5th weekend, from Friday end of shift until Monday 7:00 AM.
- Call response time: 30 minutes.
- Travelers with Neuro IR experience may be asked to take Neuro call; otherwise, only General IR call.
- No holidays currently required, but may be subject to call.
- Shift times on call:
- General IR: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Neuro IR: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
- Shift flexibility: manager open to adjusting shift lengths (e.g., four 10-hour shifts instead of five 8-hour shifts).
Technology and Equipment
- EMR system experience preferred (EPIC).
- IV pumps: Alaris.
- Medication dispensing: Pyxis.
- PACS: Change Healthcare.
- Imaging equipment: Siemens and GE preferred.
- Injector: MedRad.
- Additional equipment (experience not required): IVUS, Ultrasound (GE), Laser, Bovie (for some port removals), Angiojet.
