Description

Registered Nurse - ICU

Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Neurovascular ICU (NVICU)
  • Number of Beds: 16
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 2:1; may vary between 1:1 and 3:1 depending on acuity and staffing
  • Staffing: Unit secretary staffed during dayshift; occasional nurse externs assist as techs
  • Equipment Used: Ventilators, External Ventricular Drains (EVDs), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Sustained Low-Efficiency Dialysis (SLED), EV 1000 monitoring system
  • Documentation System: Meditech
  • Scheduling:
    • Minimum of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
    • Partial self-scheduling with manager adjustments to balance shifts
  • Floating Policy: Contract staff float first; may be required to float to med/surg units as needed
  • Dress Code: Navy scrubs (tops and bottoms)

Job Description

  • Provide attentive and compassionate care to patients and their families
  • Perform advanced ICU procedures including:
    • Insertion of central lines
    • Arterial lines
    • Lumbar punctures
    • Chest tube insertions
    • EVD insertions

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Additional Notes

  • Experience with critical care equipment and procedures is essential
  • Candidates should be comfortable with variable patient ratios and floating to other units if needed
  • The unit values compassionate patient and family care
  • Schedule includes weekend shifts and requires flexibility
