Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking experienced Registered Nurses for a high-acuity, fast-paced Labor and Delivery unit. The role requires working in a high-risk, high-volume L&D environment with responsibilities including circulating during deliveries and newborn care until transfer to postpartum. The position involves floating to postpartum and antepartum units and possibly to sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.


Required Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of nursing experience in a high acuity and high pace environment.
  • Highly preferred: 5 years of high-risk experience in Labor and Delivery.
  • Candidates with less than 3 years of experience will not be considered.
  • No first-time travelers accepted.
  • Must have current supervisory references.

Key Responsibilities

  • Function as Baby Nurse during delivery and provide newborn care (including eyes, thighs, assessments, and Vitamin K injections).
  • Circulate during deliveries (HARD STOP requirement).
  • Administer medications such as Heparin, Insulin, Magnesium Sulfate.
  • Work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
  • Float between Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Antepartum units.

Patient Population

  • Midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services supporting substance recovery, and community care clinics.

Unit Details

  • High Risk/High Volume Labor & Delivery with 4 Operating Rooms.
  • Average daily census: 15 patients.
  • Approximately 500-600 deliveries per month.
  • 31 rooms and 31 beds.
  • Schedule posted every 6 weeks to meet unit needs.

Required Certifications

  • Required: BLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Preferred: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced, AWHONN Intermediate
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or equivalent required.

License Requirements

  • Must have a current, active nursing license valid in Washington State.
  • Compact license holders are accepted if active.
  • NURSYS verification required.

Prior Travel Experience

  • Prior travel experience is required.
  • Unit does not accept first-time travelers.

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass clinical review with proof of current NURSYS verification.
  • Must provide proof of required certifications with submission.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 supervisory references covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
  • Background check and drug screening required per policy.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required.
  • Immunizations and health documents required including TB test, Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, Flu vaccine or declination, COVID vaccine or declination.
  • Fit mask testing required for travel candidates.
  • Must comply with float policy acknowledging possible assignment to other related units/facilities.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced, high acuity Labor & Delivery unit.
  • Use of EPIC electronic medical records system with hard stops for critical functions.
  • Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.

Schedule

  • Work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
  • Schedule posted every 6 weeks.

This is a travel contract opportunity for experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurses with strong high-risk L&D skills, prior travel experience, and required certifications. Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Washington State
  • Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
  • At least one completed travel nursing assignment
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or equivalent
  • Verification through NURSYS
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working with high-risk patients
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a high-acuity and high-pace nursing environment
  • Experience using Epic electronic medical records system
