Description

Job Opportunity: OR Tech / Surgical Tech

Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work primarily in Main OR with general surgery, orthopedic, neuro, ENT, vascular, plastics, gynecology, urology, and robotics cases
  • Strong neuro experience is a must
  • Shift details and weekend/on-call requirements will be discussed during the interview
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs, including sister facilities, is required
  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • No pending licenses accepted
  • Guaranteed hours: 36 hours for 3x12 shifts or 40 hours for 8/10 shifts
  • Time-sensitive onboarding modules must be prioritized and completed before starting

Required Experience

  • Minimum 18 months of experience as a Surgical Technologist
  • Surgical Technologist experience within the last year required
  • Strong neuro experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted

Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS issued by the American Heart Association required
  • National certification (NBSTSA/NCCT) preferred
  • ACLS not required for OR Tech role
  • National certification verification required within 30 days of start
  • State license verification and primary source verification required within 30 days of start (specific to Radiologic Technologists if applicable)

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting accepted nationwide)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start (no FL Medical Marijuana card accepted)
  • Physical exam within 6 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Required immunizations/vaccinations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
  • COVID vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption required

Onboarding & Training

  • Completion of online training modules prior to start is mandatory; must be done on a computer using Google Chrome
  • Modules include COVID documentation submission and other facility-specific training
  • Pass/fail testing (EKG/Pharmacology) applies only to RNs/LPNs, not OR Techs

Additional Information

  • Smoke-free facility: all travelers must be nicotine-free; negative nicotine test required
  • Must include all requested time-off (RTO) upfront with submission; late additions likely not approved
  • Parking is free in unrestricted spaces
  • Charting system used: EPIC
  • Facility is a short-term acute care teaching hospital with 332 staffed beds

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references required within 2 years of start date for travel positions
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the client for over 1 year
