Registered Nurse - Telemetry

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with Telemetry skills to care for surgery patients including colorectal, general surgery, hepatobiliary, orthopedics, and spine. Night shift position with target nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6.


Shift Details

  • Shift: Nights, 18:45 - 07:15
  • Hours: 36 or 48 hours offered
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Float Requirement: Occasionally
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling with nurse manager input
  • Orientation: 36 hours
  • Scrubs: Navy blue or white (not provided)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • EKG competency

Patient Population

  • Surgery patients: colorectal, general surgery, hepatobiliary, orthopedics/spine

Unit Systems

  • Pyxis medication system
  • SBAR communication framework
  • EPIC electronic health record

Additional Notes

  • Return to Origin (RTO) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation.
  • Block scheduling requests reviewed case-by-case by unit manager.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements (Summary)

  • Background check within 6 months required
  • Drug screening within 6 months required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year required
  • Required immunizations/titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Medication safety training and hospital policy acknowledgements required
  • Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG exam (must pass with 82% or higher)
  • Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract
  • Various facility-specific orientation and compliance trainings required

Important Compliance Testing

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Must be completed within 72 hours of start; three attempts allowed with remediation process
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Color blindness testing within 1 year required
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment

Patient Care Environment

  • Surgery unit with diverse surgical patient population
  • Telemetry monitoring essential
  • Night shift with moderate patient load

This position is ideal for an RN with telemetry experience looking for a 13-week travel contract on a night shift caring for surgical patients in a telemetry setting. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
