Registered Nurse – Emergency Room

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse to provide care in a Level 1 Trauma ED with 65 all-private beds including 2 trauma bays. The role involves caring for a wide variety of patients ranging from newborns to elderly, including critically ill patients, cardiac arrests, strokes, heart attacks, and trauma cases.

Work Environment

• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary from 1:3 to 1:5 depending on acuity and department needs.
• The ED is staffed with a minimum of 3 attending physicians at all times and 2 charge nurses per shift.
• Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen devices.
• Telemetry/monitor techs are present, but nurses must be able to interpret cardiac rhythms and act accordingly.
• Radiology staff handle imaging transport; nurses and techs draw labs.
• 12-hour shifts with day, mid, and night options; no rotating shifts.
• Weekend and holiday coverage required on a rotating basis.
• No call or standby requirements for travelers.
• Occasional floating as a "help all" on other units is rare and not typical for travelers.

Required Certifications and Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, including 2 years in the Emergency Department (ED)
• Emergency Department experience within the last year
• At least 1 prior travel assignment
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or TNS

Skills and Competencies

• Proficient in general nursing skills and critical care nursing in the ED setting.
• Ability to titrate a wide variety of drips including vasopressors, cardiac drips, and antihypertensive medications.
• Able to recognize and respond to life-threatening cardiac rhythms.
• Comfortable working with trauma patients once stabilized and transferred from trauma bay.
