Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – High Acuity Unit
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Information
- Unit Type: Critical Care (High Acuity Unit)
- Number of Beds: 8
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and to fill holes
- Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation and to fill holes
- Floating: ICU RNs may float to Medical-Surgical unit
- Dress Code: Scrubs only; OSF-approved t-shirts allowed in any color
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses: Respiratory failure, post-surgical care, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, cardiac patients
- Patient Care Skills Required:
- PEG tube care and feedings
- CVC/PICC/Midline line care and usage
- Tracheostomy care
- Caring for sedated and ventilated patients
- Titrating vasopressors, sedation, and pain control drips
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips including:
- Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Lasix, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, Dopamine, Cardizem
- Most ICU-level drips apply
- Respiratory Therapy (RT) available in-house 24/7
- RNs troubleshoot ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow devices
- Telemetry:
- All ICU beds have hard-wired Phillips telemetry monitors
- Monitored centrally by telemetry tech in ICU
- RNs read their own telemetry strips
Staffing & Support
- Charge Nurse: No charge nurse on each shift; House Supervisor available 24/7
- Nurse Aides/Patient Care Techs: None; nurses provide all primary care in ICU
- Hospitalist/Intensivist: In-house coverage during day shift only; tele-health MD available after hours
Orientation & Training
- Orientation: 12 non-billable hours classroom orientation plus 2 shifts unit-specific orientation with preceptor
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license or proof of application initiation required
- Certifications:
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- BLS (American Heart Association)
Additional Notes
- Drug-Free workplace: Negative drug screen required for all panels
- Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius
- Call or standby requirement: None currently, but subject to change
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with PEG tube care and feedings
- Experience with CVC/PICC/Midline line care and usage
- Experience caring for tracheostomy patients
- Skilled in titrating vasopressors
- Skilled in managing sedation and pain control drips
