Description

Registered Nurse - PCU

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a clinical resource unit with a focus on oncology and progressive care (PCU) level patients.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in high acuity PCU level or higher required.
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required.
  • Floating assignments to MedSurg and PCU Oncology units including:
    • Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)
    • Acute Leukemia
    • Hematology
    • Medical Oncology
    • PCU Oncology
    • Gynecological Oncology
    • Urology
    • Colorectal
    • Surgical Oncology
    • Corrections Healthcare
  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention.
  • Shift options include 12-hour day/night rotating shifts; schedule reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to staffing needs.
  • Staffing ratios: PCU typically 1:3, can be 1:4 with mixed acuity; MedSurg Telemetry ideally 1:4, can be 1:5.
  • Weekend shifts variable based on unit needs.
  • No set/blocked scheduling; self-schedule requests are submitted and balanced by management.
  • Orientation includes one week of Monday-Friday day shifts followed by 5 bedside orientation shifts over weeks 2-3 before independent practice.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience
  • PCU nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Additional Information

  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually.
  • State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days.
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy must be reviewed and signed.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with PCU or higher acuity experience seeking a travel contract role in a specialized oncology and progressive care setting.
