Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

Join a Critical Care Float Pool working weekend shifts (3x12 hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) with flexibility to float across various ICU units based on staffing and patient acuity. Units include:

  • Neuro ICU
  • Surgical ICUs
  • Medical ICUs (MICU x2)
  • Cardiology/Diagnostics
  • CVICU
  • SICU / MICU / NCCU

Float Policy: Nurses must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity.


Schedule

  • Weekend days: Saturday and Sunday plus one weekday
  • 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (highest requirement found)
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system
  • Skills in:
    • IV starts
    • Telemetry monitoring
    • Ventilator management
  • Previous travel nursing experience is strongly preferred (prior travel experience not explicitly required but preferred)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed)
  • NIH Stroke certification required within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years for certain units

References and Documentation

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Nurses will float to multiple ICU units, requiring flexibility and broad critical care skills.
  • Weekend shifts with one additional weekday shift provide a consistent schedule.
  • Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Parking permits are available for agency staff (details not included here).
