Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – IMC (Intermediate Care)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably with neurological experience, for an Intermediate Care unit specializing in neurological and medical intermediate patients. Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers will not be accepted.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • Telemetry experience
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Accessing/managing ports, phlebotomy.
  • Additional skills: Triage, ICP monitoring, conscious sedation, charge nurse experience.
  • Certifications: CCRN, TNCC, CPI.

Work Details

  • Shift: 12-hour day shifts (06:45 – 19:15).
  • Ratios: 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
  • Patient Census: Maximum 24 patients.
  • Weekend Requirement: Minimum 3 weekend shifts every 6 weeks.
  • Float Requirement: May float to other intermediate areas including cardiac intermediate and critical care units.
  • Orientation: 32 hours total (8-hour computer class plus two unit shifts).
  • Dress Code: Navy blue and white scrubs (not provided).
  • Call Requirement: None.
  • Scheduling: Per unit needs.
  • Special Equipment: None specified.
  • Teamwork: Must demonstrate a teamwork approach and adhere to behavioral expectations.
  • Call-off Policy: Strictly enforced; no RTO (return to office) after booking.

Patient Population

  • Intermediate care patients with a neurological sub-specialty focus.
  • Medical intermediate patients.

Required Testing & Compliance

  • Must pass EKG/dysrhythmia competency testing prior to start.
  • Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, sex offender search, and education verification.
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start.
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or PAPR training.
  • Physical exam within 1 year (or 30 days if past positive TB).
  • Immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination), Flu vaccine or approved exemption.
  • TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year.
  • Annual compliance and facility-specific mandatory education.
  • Medication safety training.
  • Other facility-specific documents and agreements required prior to start.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be reviewed against the unit description, not just clinical track.
  • Neuro experience must be clearly communicated if limited.
  • EPIC test-out option available for experienced candidates (optional).
  • Interview with manager required before offer.
  • Strong adherence to call-off and behavioral policies is mandatory.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with neurological and telemetry skills who have prior travel contract experience and are looking for a 13-week travel assignment in North Carolina.
