Description

Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Avon, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts; every other weekend required
  • Floating: Yes, may float to other MedSurg units
  • Staffing Ratios: 1:5-6
  • Indiana residents are NOT accepted
  • First Time Travelers Accepted
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Required for all travelers (medical or religious exemptions accepted with documentation)
  • Note: Indiana RNs working in Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory specialties are exempt from Indiana RN restrictions effective 11/30/24.

Required Certifications

  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
  • Minimum 18 months of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Licensure

  • Online license verification required within 30 days before start date

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination preferred but not required
  • Color blind testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent)

Background & Documentation

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year residence/work history
    • SSN trace
    • County, statewide, national sex offender checks
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma required
  • Employment application covering 7 years with explanations for gaps
  • Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment (charge, manager, supervisor, or above)

Additional Notes

  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
  • Unit competency exam required
  • HIPAA and facility-specific compliance forms must be completed prior to start
  • Self-study orientation and testing required before start
  • Indiana residents are generally not accepted for this role

Summary

This is a travel/contract Registered Nurse position in Medical Surgical nursing requiring at least 18 months of MedSurg experience within the last year, specific certifications, and compliance with strict health and background requirements. The role involves 12-hour shifts with weekend work and floating to other MedSurg units. Indiana residents are not eligible to apply. First-time travelers are welcome.
