Description

Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech

Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Surgical Services
  • Shift: 4x10 hour shifts (6:45 AM to 5:15 PM)
  • Operating Rooms: 9 ORs
  • On-Call Requirement: Yes
    • 4 weekdays on-call and 1.5 weekends on-call every 4 weeks
    • Weekend on-call includes at least one full weekend and one half weekend every 4 weeks
  • Floating: Yes, between service lines (not to sister facilities)
  • Types of Cases: General Surgery, Robotics, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Gynecology, Eyes, Urology, ENT

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist
  • Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
  • Current BLS certification
  • CST or NBSTSA certification required
  • Experience in all required surgical areas

  • Acute Care Hospital setting
  • 286 staffed beds
  • Scrubs provided
  • Charting system: Epic

  • Local radius rule: 60 miles
  • Locals accepted on a case-by-case basis

Important Notes

  • Block scheduling accommodations require manager approval and depend on unit needs
  • Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift
  • During hurricane season (June-November, peak in August-September), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams; new or extension assignments during this time should be considered carefully

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility in the US (I-9 form and attestation)
  • Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
  • Copy of Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Annual background check including multiple searches (SSN trace, criminal, sex offender registry, etc.)
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
  • OFAC Sanctions List Search prior to start
  • South Carolina RN license verification (primary source) or compact license; walk-through/temp license option available for eligible candidates
  • NURSYS verification for RNs
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug test within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and titers required or proof of vaccination/declination for:
    • Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccines)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or chest x-ray if prior positive
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
  • COVID vaccines highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
  • Respirator medical clearance annually for patient-facing staff
  • Color blindness testing required prior to start
  • Competency exams required as applicable (including medication/pharmacology and OR competency)
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start
  • Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed prior to start

Additional Requirements

  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
  • Radiation badge process may take 5-7 days; candidates cannot start without badge clearance
  • IV Therapy certification may be required for select LPNs (not applicable for this role)
