Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Cardiac Telemetry

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: 12-hour night shifts (36 hours per week can be offered)
Patient Population: Cardiac patients including those with congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, post cardiac catheterization


Job Description

  • Floating is required as needed, with potential to float every shift.
  • Expected to work 5-6 weekend shifts (about every other weekend).
  • Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters.
  • Unit monitors cardiac patients requiring care including cardiac drips (Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Milrinone, Dopamine, etc.).
  • Special procedures include sheath pulls, TR bands, femstop.
  • Unit systems include Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR communication.
  • Orientation: 24 hours.
  • Scrubs: Not provided.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Direct Observation Unit (DOU), Intermediate Care, and Stepdown units
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Compliance and Requirements

  • Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, sex offender search, and education verification required.
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, additional requirements apply.
  • Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) required within 1 year of start.
  • Immunizations and titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination), seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption.
  • TB testing and questionnaire required.
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (starting 9/1, deadline 10/31).
  • Must complete facility-specific orientation modules and compliance training prior to start.
  • Must complete medication safety training and competency exams as applicable.
  • Must complete Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 72 hours of assignment start (minimum 82% score required, up to 3 attempts allowed with remediation).
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel and acute care positions.
  • Employment application and skills checklist must be completed and uploaded.

Additional Notes

  • No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation.
  • Candidates must be prepared to work in a fast-paced cardiac telemetry environment with complex cardiac patients.
  • Candidates will be expected to comply with all facility policies including confidentiality agreements, dress code, and hospital policies.
  • Badge photo requirements: passport-style photo on white background, business attire, no head coverings except glasses.
  • Candidates must complete all required education and compliance modules, which may take several hours.
  • Candidates must be prepared to float to other units as needed.
