Description

Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse

Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Start date preferred: May 4
  • Must have experience in OB, Mother/Baby, and Labor & Delivery (L&D)
  • No return to office (RTO) required for the first two weeks of the contract
  • Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines for staffing
  • Work in all areas of Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit
  • Weekend requirement: work every other weekend
  • Float responsibilities: may float within the house as sitter when needed and to a nearby facility (27 miles away) when census allows
  • No on-call duties
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system used: EPIC
  • Unit details: 15-bed LDRP unit with 3 triage bays and 2 operating rooms
  • Nursing roles include antepartum, labor and delivery, OR circulating, scrub nurse, newborn nurse at delivery, and couplet care
  • Nurses perform lab draws and newborn hearing screens (ALGO 5 Machine used)
  • Scrubs provided
  • Training provided for newborn infant hearing screens

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Michigan
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • AWHONN Intermediate or NCC C-EFM certification
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Additional Information

  • Must complete a physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Required immunizations and health documents include:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 30 days of start
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine proof
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella immunizations or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination form
    • Varicella immunization or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (for candidates starting after November 1)
  • Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start
  • Background checks required including criminal history, national sex offender, education verification, and state-specific registry clearances
  • Fingerprinting required within 45 days of start (Michigan LARA) for certain positions
  • Professional reference required from a supervisor or manager
  • Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps
  • Must review and sign facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards
  • Medication and competency exams must be completed within 1 year prior to assignment start with passing scores
  • Fit testing required on-site for certain roles

Summary

This is a travel contract position for an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. The role requires multiple certifications including ACLS, BLS, NRP, and fetal monitoring credentials. The nurse will work in a 15-bed LDRP unit, providing comprehensive care across antepartum, labor, delivery, and postpartum areas, including OR circulating and newborn care. Weekend work every other weekend and some floating duties are expected. The position requires compliance with extensive health, background, and competency documentation prior to and during the contract.
