Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Shifts: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts, day or night
- Every other weekend work required
- Primary assignment in Labor & Delivery (L&D) with NICU focus
- Floating to PICU and some Pediatric Acute Care units as needed
- Must have recent Children's Hospital experience within the last 3 years; experience at a Level 1 adult facility may be considered
- Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required
- Unit assignment may be NICU, PICU, or Pediatrics based on facility needs
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Indiana State Respiratory Therapist License (must be in hand to submit)
- ACLS (AHA accepted, RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA accepted, RQI acceptable)
- NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required if placed in L&D; can be obtained after offer
- PALS preferred
- Education must be accredited by CoARC and regionally accredited by CHEA
Requirements/Qualifications
- Certified Respiratory Therapist with a minimum of 2 years of NICU experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working in Labor & Delivery (L&D)
- Recent experience in a Children's Hospital setting within the last 3 years
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification
- Current NRP certification
- Respiratory Therapist experience
Additional Requirements
- Must provide written confirmation of comfort with every other weekend scheduling before submission
- First-time travelers accepted
- Must complete mandatory facility-specific RRT modules prior to orientation (21 modules covering safety, compliance, infection prevention, HIPAA, and more)
- Must pass medication/pharmacology competency exam and unit competency exam
- Must pass color blindness testing (Ishihara or equivalent, 100% score required)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Tuberculosis screening (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap strongly recommended
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Annual TB questionnaire
- HIPAA acknowledgment and orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
Background & Documentation
- Background check within 90 days of start, including 7-year history and various national/statewide checks
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification and official transcripts/diplomas required
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment (within 2 years) with appropriate supervisory titles
- Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps of 30+ days
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter
Notes
- Indiana licensed RRTs will not be allowed to work at the facility after 11/30/2024, except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RNs
- On-site fit testing available only as a last resort with limitations
- PAPR use requires prior facility approval
