Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
  • Shift: Day Shift, 4x10 hour shifts (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: No weekends required
  • On-Call: Yes, up to one call day per week (calls start at 5 PM)
  • Floating: No floating between units or facilities required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

  • First Time Travelers: Accepted
  • Local Candidates: Accepted within 60 miles radius
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift
  • Scrubs: Hospital-issued OR scrubs provided
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Parking: No fee for parking; parking pass provided at badge pickup

Important Notes

  • Hurricane Season: Assignments may include emergency response duties from June through November, with peak activity in August and September. New or extension assignments during this time should be considered carefully.
  • Radiation Badge: Candidates cannot start without their radiation badge; processing may take 5-7 days.
  • Orientation: Completion of orientation modules and facility-specific forms is required prior to start.
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 90 days of start, cleared to work without restrictions
    • Immunizations and titers (e.g., Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B) required or documented exemptions
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
    • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
    • Respirator medical clearance required annually
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption accepted
    • COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated

Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of 2 clinical references (at least one from the unit of assignment)
  • Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
  • Background checks including criminal, sex offender registry, and employment eligibility verification
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
  • Photo for badge (passport-style, frontal view, solid light background)
  • Completion of facility-specific confidentiality, security, and contractor forms prior to start

Certifications to Maintain (as applicable)

  • ACLS (American Heart Association only) – required for all RNs
  • PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification – as required by unit
  • IV Therapy certification – if applicable
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) – if applicable
