Description
Registered Nurse - CVICU
Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- 16-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Patient ratios typically 1:2, 1:1 for certain device patients
- Unit staffing includes free-floating charge nurse support, unit secretary, and administrative care tech (M-F 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM)
- Student Nurse Externs assist with tech duties on variable shifts
- Equipment includes Phillips bedside telemetry monitors, Hill-Rom beds, and Alaris IV pumps
- Documentation system: Meditech
- Scheduling requires 2 weekends per month and coverage of specific holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day)
- Floating policy: Travel nurses float as needed, typically to other ICUs or floors
- No specific patient experience requirements
Job Responsibilities
- Provide care to immediate post-operative cardiac surgery patients, including those on ECMO, Centrimags, and HM3 LVADs
- Perform procedures such as central line insertion, Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, and intubations on unit
- Manage advanced hemodynamic monitoring including PA catheter use
- Care for patients with intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), Impella devices, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications
- Advanced skills with PA catheter and hemodynamic monitoring

- Dress code: Scrubs in black, red, or galaxy blue; scrub jackets/vests only
