Job Opportunity: X-Ray Tech

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
  • Work setting: Outpatient Operating Room (OR) with possible shifts in Main OR if needed
  • Shift: 4 days per week, 10-hour day shifts (Mon, Wed-Fri, 9:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Call: Weekly call rotation, approximately 3-4 days per month
  • Floating: May float within the same campus buildings; no floating to sister facilities
  • Daily caseload varies

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid Radiology Technologist license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Radiology Technologist experience, including OR experience
  • Experience as an X-Ray Technician

Certifications & Licenses

  • Required:
    • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification
    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • South Carolina state license must be active and in hand prior to start
  • Radiation badge must be provided by the agency (facility does not provide)
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS) — verify with specific unit requirements

Work Environment & Facility Highlights

  • Teaching hospital with Magnet status and Level 1 Trauma designation
  • Total staffed beds: 865
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Scrub color: Teal top / Black bottoms
  • Parking: Paid parking for nights and weekends; one-time parking pass fee applies
  • Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation

Important Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including 7 years of history and multiple registries
  • Education verification and diploma/transcripts preferred
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Fit testing for N95 masks required within 90 days prior to start and annually thereafter
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccination proof
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccination or declination
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
  • Color blind testing and competency exams required prior to start
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start

Additional Notes

  • Agency must supply radiation badge; processing can take 5-7 days before candidate can start floor work
  • Radius rule: 60 miles
  • Locals accepted at a reduced rate
  • Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • All required orientation modules must be completed prior to start; failure to complete may result in being sent home
  • COVID vaccination is highly preferred but not required; declination form must be completed if not vaccinated
