Job Opportunity: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Summary
Seeking a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with experience in Adult Critical Care and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to work primarily night shifts (3x12 hours). The role requires floating between Adult and NICU units. Weekend coverage every other weekend and holiday coverage are expected. No on-call requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Airway management and suctioning (endotracheal tube, nasal/oral airway placement, tracheostomy suctioning)
- Extubation procedures
- Pulmonary hygiene and sputum specimen collection
- Arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation and drawing
- Use and troubleshooting of ventilators (Draeger V500, Servo U)
- Management of respiratory medications and aerosol treatments (e.g., Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Spiriva, BiPAP, CPAP)
- Weaning patients from mechanical ventilation
- Assisting in high-risk deliveries and umbilical blood gas collection
- Use of high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), trach collar, and aerosol setup for mask and trach
Required Qualifications
- Certified Respiratory Therapist with at least 1 year of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience within the last year
- Experience with aerosol setup, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), BiPAP, and CPAP
- Skilled in troubleshooting high pressure alarms on ventilators
- Proficient in weaning patients from mechanical ventilation
- Experience assisting in high-risk deliveries and collecting umbilical blood gases
- Competent in the use of ventilators, specifically Draeger V500 and Servo U models
- General Respiratory Therapist experience
Shift Details
- Night shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage expected
- No on-call requirement
Equipment & Systems
- Ventilators: Draeger V500, Servo U
- Electronic charting system: Cerner (preferred experience)
- Comfortable with ABG drawing and analysis
Facility Type
- Short-term acute care teaching hospital
- Total staffed beds: 338
Additional Requirements
- Criminal background check within 90 days of start
- Drug screening within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations
- Up-to-date immunizations and health screenings including TB test, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap, and seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
- N95 fit test within 9 months of start, updated annually
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and safety modules prior to start
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps
