Description
Job Opportunity: Step Down Nurse (Registered Nurse)
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a step down unit caring for general medical and oncology stepdown patients.
- Oncology/Chemotherapy experience is highly preferred.
- Administer chemotherapy via IV and start IVs.
- Use equipment such as Welch Allyn Vital Sign Towers, Sigma IV Pumps, and EPIC for documentation.
- Nurse to patient ratio typically 1:4-6, with support staff available if ratios increase. Chemotherapy admissions reduce assignment ratios.
- Floating to other medical-surgical areas including Acute Unit (AU) and Emergency Room (ER) to care for med-surg patients.
- Weekend work: every other weekend.
- No call required.
- Block scheduling may be accommodated upon request.
- Scheduling: Weekends assigned by manager/scheduler; other days can be self-scheduled.
- Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment.
- Requests for time off after offer must be discussed with onsite management.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown experience
- Stepdown experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to float to other med-surg units including AU and ER.
- Professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
- Complete application/resume with full 7 years of work history, no gaps.
- Skills checklist for applicable unit must be updated annually.
Compliance and Documentation
- Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search and multiple verifications.
- Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions.
- Central Registry Clearance required for pediatric and certain specialty placements.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 30 days of start
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (for candidates starting after November 1)
- Fit mask testing required on-site (Honeywell DC365N95HC) with annual expiration for new contracts.
Notes
- No return to office (RTO) required for July 4th holiday.
- Charge nurse typically not assigned patient load.
- Chemotherapy admissions reduce nurse assignment ratios.
- Block scheduling and self-scheduling options available with manager approval.
