Description

Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: New Ulm, Minnesota
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift:
    • Weekend: 7 PM – 7 AM
    • Every other weekend: 3 PM – 3 AM
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Days: 1:3
    • Nights: 1:2-3
    • Weekends: 1:2-3
  • Average Daily Census: 1-2 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: Must be willing to float within scope to departments outside of OB to assist with patient care (helping hands/support staff). Agency nurses are not expected to take assignments outside OB but should be comfortable caring for low acuity non-OB patients managed in OB.
  • Block Schedule: Not available
  • Locals: Not accepted (must be outside 100-mile radius)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
  • Guaranteed Hours:
    • 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts available
    • Minimum 36 hours/week for 12-hour shifts
    • Minimum 40 hours/week for shifts less than 12 hours
  • Special Requirements:
    • Must be able to care for all aspects of labor and delivery: triage antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care
    • Required skills: Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) and IV start
    • Preferred skills: Charge Nurse experience

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Minnesota (pending license accepted)
  • Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year
  • Proficient in Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) and IV start
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in Charge Nurse roles

Prior Travel Experience

  • First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)

Compliance and Onboarding Requirements

  • Criminal background check within one year of start date
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within one year of start
  • Diploma or transcripts as applicable
  • Minnesota DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required before start (no fingerprints pending allowed)
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Adult Tdap (no declinations accepted without exemption approval)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per guidelines
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive titers required
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination series
    • Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted)
  • OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start
  • Completion of facility-specific online orientation modules within 72 hours of assignment acceptance (approx. 11.5 hours for L&D RN)
  • Passport-style photo for badge within 48 hours of contract signing

Additional Notes

  • Must be comfortable working in a small critical access hospital setting with low patient census
  • Must be flexible to assist with non-OB patient care within the OB department
  • No on-call required
  • Must comply with all facility-specific policies and procedures
