Registered Nurse - MedSurg/Telemetry
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with MedSurg and Telemetry experience to work 12-hour day shifts on a MedSurg/Telemetry unit. The unit primarily cares for stroke and neurology patients, including neurosurgery and epilepsy monitoring. Floating to other MedSurg/Telemetry areas, including COVID care units, is required.
Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of MedSurg/Telemetry experience within the last year
- Completion of 2 or more prior travel assignments
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in management of dysrhythmias
Unit & Patient Details
- Unit census: ~42 patients, 43 beds
- Specialty care for stroke, neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other neurological diagnoses
- 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with optional training for nurses
Scheduling
- 12-hour day shifts
- 36 or 48 hours per week available
- Preferred scheduling type
- Block scheduling not always guaranteed
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, and national criminal databases
- Education verification for highest degree earned
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (or 30 days if past positive TB)
- Fit testing for N95 mask or PAPR training completion
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccine or approved exemption
- TB testing within 1 year; additional requirements if positive
- Annual compliance and facility-specific mandatory education modules
- Completion of Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (approx. 8-10 hours for acute care)
- Medication safety training and competency exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with minimum passing score of 82%
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years (for travel and acute care)
Additional Notes
- No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation
- Frequent floating may be required
- Must adhere to facility dress code and policies
- Badge photo and documentation required prior to start
- Must complete all required facility-specific documents and trainings before starting assignment
This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg/Telemetry RNs with prior travel contract experience who are comfortable with neurological patient care and flexible scheduling including floating and weekend shifts.
