Registered Nurse - PCU (Indianapolis, Indiana)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Expected to work every other weekend; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs.
- May be required to cover charge nurse responsibilities with training and resources provided.
- Floating to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) may be required; refusal to float may result in contract termination.
- Staffing ratios range from 1:3 to 1:5 depending on patient acuity.
- Unit focus: Post Cardiac Surgery and Post Vascular Surgery; strong cardiac and post-op heart experience is needed.
- First-time travelers accepted; local candidates are not accepted.
- COVID-19 vaccination is required (medical or religious exemptions accepted with documentation).
- Indiana RNs are restricted from working at the facility after 11/30/24 except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) - preferred (Level 1 or Level II Trauma Experience required)
- Telemetry experience required
- IV Start and Cardiac Drips - Titration skills required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license for Indiana
- Level 1 or Level II Trauma Experience
- Strong cardiac/post-op heart experience
- Prior travel experience is not required
- Must be able to float to Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU units as needed
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (including amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP)
- Fit test for approved respirators within 12 months (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95)
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
- COVID-19 vaccine (mandatory)
- Rubeola (Measles) - positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted)
- Mumps - positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted)
- Rubella - positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted)
- Varicella - positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap - strongly recommended
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
- Tuberculosis screening within 1 year (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) with chest x-ray if positive
- Color blindness exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
- Background checks including 7-year work/living history, criminal, sex offender, and education verification
- References: minimum 2 from recent employment with supervisory titles, verified within 2 years
Additional Information
- Call-in shifts must be made up during the pay period or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status.
- Orientation includes completion of multiple mandatory training modules prior to start.
- Candidates must complete facility-specific compliance and confidentiality forms prior to start.
- Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam and unit competency exam.
- Must comply with all facility policies and procedures.
This position requires a highly skilled RN with strong cardiac and telemetry experience, flexibility to float across units, and compliance with strict health and certification requirements.
