Description
Registered Nurse - Med/Surg Telemetry
Location: Garfield Heights, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Minimum of 18 months recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience required
- Must have 18 months permanent Med/Surg Telemetry experience prior to travel
- Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand
- AHA BLS & ACLS certification required
- Must be willing to obtain NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification prior to start
- One recent reference from a manager, ANM, supervisor, or director in the specialty is required (Charge RN references accepted)
- ECG rhythm recognition test and medication safety exam (SafeMedicate) must be passed during orientation
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 1.5 years of Med/Surg Telemetry experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Assessments & Orientation
- ECG rhythm recognition test during orientation (minimum passing score required)
- SafeMedicate medication administration exam during orientation (minimum passing score required)
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start
- Baseline competency exams (medication and ECG) required for all bedside RNs except OR RNs
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment
- Background check including FCRA-compliant 7-year search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required prior to start and updated annually
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract; results required within 12 months and updated annually
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start for new and extension contracts
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months of start, updated annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine every 10 years (declinations not accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months of start, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers required; boosters if titers negative or equivocal
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, titer, or declination required
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer required; booster if negative or equivocal
- Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Annual flu vaccination documentation required (declinations not accepted; medical/religious exemptions must be approved)
References & Employment History
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, ANM, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
- Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar specialty area
Additional Notes
- Candidates may start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start
- Candidates with a break of less than 6 months since last assignment at the same health system may be exempt from some orientation exams and training
- Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; video training must be watched before testing
- Candidates must have legal name correctly listed in onboarding systems; name changes must be updated through proper channels
- Medication and ECG competency exams have minimum passing scores (SafeMedicate 90%, ECG 80%) with remediation and retake opportunities if needed
This position requires a highly experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RN with strong clinical skills, current certifications, and compliance with all health and background requirements. Night shift availability and readiness to complete facility-specific orientation and testing are essential.
